In April, thirteen students and I flew into Guayaquil to begin an 8-day adventure. The goal of this trip was to capture the landscape, the personalities of the people, the food, and the culture. Showcasing the lifestyle, food, and habitat of the locals was a key element while on our journey.
The culture surrounding the people in Ecuador, especially along the Pacific coast region, was centered around family, food, and relaxation. Many people not only napped in hammocks but slept in them rather than beds. Many of the homes in the areas we went to didn't have windows, instead often you would see cardboard hung over a window.
Privacy didn't seem to be a concern to most and they spent a lot of time sitting in chairs with friends in the front of homes and stores. Chickens, roosters, and dogs roamed freely and often you would see a pig tied to a fence post or tree.
These are some of my favorite photos showcasing the culture along the Pacific coast region of Ecuador.
They were shot while teaching and exploring with the travel abroad class.
